Welcome to JES & Co.

JES & Co. is connecting the dots between learning systems in the United States and internationally using semantic web technologies. With the Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC), educational resources will be shared by teachers, parents, students and the general public and discovered across oceans and continents using a simple non-proprietary format called the Resource Description Framework, the linked data structure of the upcoming Semantic Web.

JES & Co. Announces a Collaboration with the Learning Registry Community

The Achievement Standards Network is Providing Learning Objectives to the Learning Registry

The U.S. Departments of Education and Defense announced the launch of the Learning Registry, an open source community and technology designed to improve the quality and availability of learning resources in education. The launch is an important milestone in the effort to more effectively share information about learning resources, including how the resource meets state and national learning objectives. "JES & Co. is very pleased to be part of the Learning Registry community and we are excited that the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) provides the framework for describing global learning objectives along with U.S. state and national academic standards," explains Diny Golder, Executive Director of JES & Co.

Launch of the New Gateway to 21st Century Skills

The Gateway gets a complete new look and several new features!

JES & Co. announced today the launch of a robust build of the Gateway to 21st Century Skills (Gateway). The homepage (www.thegateway.org) has been simplified with easy to use icons. A daily contribution from Today in Literature provides a daily calendar of engaging stories about literary history. A resource recommendation engine will allow user searches to return a more-like-this list of similar resources. The new Gateway will also feature one click access to current and past weekly educational topics covered by Gateway columnists, Joann and Peggy.

Learning Resources on Espionage - this Week’s Topic on the Gateway to 21st Century Skills

Most students, at one time or another, become enamored with spies and espionage. Spies live in the shadows, gather intelligence and use all sorts of evasive actions to avoid detection. They inhabit a world fraught with danger and mystery, and their exploits are often riveting.

What people are saying about the GLRC

“The Gateway will provide an excellent framework for assessing the value of the GLRC effort through its automated means of data collection and teacher access.”

- John Wilson, Executive Director, National Education Association (NEA)

In support of the Global Learning Resource Connection: “The K-12 education community is continuing to grow their use of digital resources. However, ensuring that our selected, quality materials are searchable and relevant is of critical importance. High quality metadata ensures that our education community is linked to great content and that content is aligned to ever evolving standards.”

- Lee Sartain, Education Policy Specialist, The Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, North Carolina State University

“NCVPS has served over 65,000 student enrollments over its brief history, and has over 400 teachers working with those students. The partnership with the Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC) will allow these teachers and students access to an increased expanse of relevant educational content in an efficient and seamless manner.”

– Chanin Rivenbark, Chief Technology Officer, North Carolina Virtual Public School

“The Achievement Standards Network (ASN) provides a model for profiling curriculum statements and linking those statements to education resources using various RDF vocabularies. By profiling curriculum statements to learning resources, more precise matching is achieved”.

– Les Kneebone – Project Manager, Education Services Australia Ltd.
