The 2nd Time Around Program (STAR)

As new technology replaces old, corporations and businesses find themselves with serviceable computers that are no longer needed. In an innovative program that's a win-win for everyone involved, JES & Co spearheads a community-based effort to teach youth how to rebuild the systems, add value to them through corporate donations and sponsorship, and return the refurbished units to non-profit, charitable and needy organizations serving youth and the community.

Environmental concerns and stringent landfill requirements have led to a significant increase in disposal and recycling costs. By donating useable or serviceable computer equipment including peripheral components such as printers and scanners to JES & Co, a registered 501(c)(3) organization, corporations and businesses receive tax benefits while reducing or eliminating disposal fees and other costs. In some cases, benefits may actually exceed residual cost basis. The Second Time Around program does not end there, however.

Taking good advantage of its acclaimed High School and Community College intern program, JES & Co. staff and faculty mentors guide tomorrow's engineers, knowledge workers and teachers through re-building the computers and installing and configuring operating systems and desktop productivity software.

When qualified non-profit and educational organizations serving youth and the community request donations of urgently needed computers, interns follow up with installation and end-user training in order to complete their program requirements and render service to the community. JES & Co.'s Second Time Around program is one of the few endeavors of its kind to recognize the need for full life-cycle control of the donation including upgrading, installation and training.
