The team at The Gateway to 21st Century skills was honored that The Gateway, the cornerstone of the Global Learning Resource Connection, was selected by eSchool News as the Site of the Week for the week of January 12, 2011. The editors at eSchool News chose The Gateway as their featured site this week because it provides a wealth of lesson plans, instructional units and other educational resources that are free and accessible to educators across the globe. eSchool News also cited the fact that educators can easily see how each resource on The Gateway is mapped to their particular state’s standards.

The Gateway to 21st Century Skills was introduced by eSchool News as a “New resource (that) gives teachers free access to educational tools.” You can view their article here: www.eschoolnews.com/news/site-of-the-week/. eSchool News is a monthly digital and print newspaper that focuses on education technology. Their online site sees more than 500,000 unique visitors per month and has over 250,000 registered members. These visitors will all be introduced to the resources, discussions, and tools that are part of The Gateway to 21st Century Skills.

You can access all of these resources for yourself at http://TheGateway.org. The weekly columns on the home page bring educators the latest featured resources and tools along with ways to successfully implement those resources and tools in the classroom. These topics are further discussed on their Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/TheGateway.org) and on Twitter (http://twitter.com/GatewaytoSkills).

About the GLRC
The Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC) is a public-private collaboration which brings to fruition ongoing work between JES & Co., a U.S. 501(c)(3) education research organization, corporate sponsors and education agencies worldwide. Leading the initial corporate involvement are founding worldwide partners Microsoft, Cisco, Cengage/Gale, the National Education Association (NEA), and other leading corporations in process. The GLRC ties together several significant semantic web technologies developed through funding from the National Science Foundation and is designed to support cyber learning. The GLRC supports the implementation of the mapping of major collections of learning resources in systems around the world to the machine-readable expressions of the learning outcomes based on the Achievement Standards Network (ASN) modeling and technical framework. The work will implement the international linking of those resources through trans-jurisdictional mapping of learning outcomes by means of Semantic Web/Linked Data principles for teacher/learner access and use.
