Breaking Down the Walls Between the Library and the Classroom

Diny Golder, the Executive Director of JES & Co, will be speaking at the IMS Global Learning Consortium international Learning Impact conference on Wednesday May 18, 2011 in Long Beach, California. Ms. Golder will be speaking on “Breaking Down the Walls Between the Library and the Classroom.” Presenting with Ms. Golder will be Dr. Fred Stielow representing the American Public University System and Marc Kelberman from Oracle.

“I am honored to be participating at the IMS Learning Impact conference and to be presenting with such esteemed colleagues,” explained Diny Golder, Executive Director of JES & Co. “It is absolutely vital that if we are to break down the walls between the libraries and the classrooms a wealth of resources mapped to state standards must be available to the teachers and students. Libraries are full of resources that are described in ways that are unfamiliar to classroom teachers. Classrooms are full of teachers who underestimate the wealth of resources found in the library. Technology-driven education solutions can merge the two together with the right use of data. JES & Co. focuses on the data.”

“Ms. Golder’s presentation at the 2011 IMS Learning Impact Conference is the first of a series of topics about bringing the library into the classroom. The education press will be covering this topic’s launch and follow up with two strands, one covering the teacher/librarian relationship and another covering the technical solutions that can make this happen,” explains Terry Smithson, JES & Co.’s Director of Marketing.

JES & Co. is a contributing member of IMS and works closely with leading educational publishers, instructional management systems, content providers and nations as they integrate learning objectives into their offerings. The Achievement Standards Network (ASN) is an open-source collection of learning objectives which can be mapped to resources found in the library or outside of the library. IMS members are using the ASN data to localize resources and address the needs of educators in a standards-based (curriculum-based) education environment. Ms. Golder will demonstrate how the American Association of School Librarians uses JES & Co.’s newly released mapping tool to relate Standards for the 21st Century Learner to the Common Core State Standards. Librarians can post lesson plans correlated to both set of standards and share them out to classroom teachers and to other librarians.
