About the Dell Academy A+ Program

The Dell Academy A+ Program is a semester long course which includes everything a school, district, or state needs to deploy A+ certification curriculum, all while matching workforce development objectives. A+ Certification, an industry recognized credential, certifies that students have the knowledge equivalent to a computer technician with six months of on-the-job experience. Additionally, the Dell Academy gives students the specific training required to repair and maintain Dell Systems.

Class time will be spent doing hands-on lab work, completing group projects, listening to lectures, and preparing for exams. Students will explore operating systems, MS-DOS, Windows 98/2000, Windows XP, basic networking, troubleshooting, and computer hardware. The Dell Student materials further enhance the program by adding Dell specific system training covering the Dell Optiplex hardware, BIOS configurations, and support training.

In addition, the Dell Academy will provide dual credit opportunities for high school students, allowing students to receive high school credit and college credit simultaneously. Students benefit by receiving reduced costs in waivers and fees and by taking advantage of current tuition costs versus potential higher costs in the future.

Dell A+ Certification Training Program - The Dell Academy A+ Program is a semester long course which includes everything a school, district, or state needs to deploy A+ certification curriculum, all while matching workforce development objectives. Dell Network+ Certification Training Program

Network+ - The Network+ Examination measures the technical knowledge of networking professionals with 18 to 24 months experience in the IT industry. Earning the Network+ certification means that the candidate possesses the knowledge needed to configure and install the TCP/IP client. Following are the key focus areas along with a summary of what is to be learned in that particular section.

Basic Knowledge - Students will learn basic network structures, which include the various topologies, the major network operating systems, the OSI Model, and networking media and connectors. Students will also learn the basic attributes, purpose, and functions of specific networking elements.

Physical, Data Link, Network, and Transport Layers - Students will learn the functions, purpose, and concepts of the four layers that comprise network technology.

TCP/IP Fundamentals - Students will learn the various concepts associated with TCP/IP, including the identification of protocols, IP gateways, port numbers, addressing, and configuration.

Remote Connectivity - Students will learn the purpose, function, attributes, and requirements of remote connection concepts.

Security - Students will acquire the ability to identify good practices to ensure network security.

Installation - Students will learn how to administer and test accounts, which includes establishing passwords, and IP addresses and configurations. In addition, students will learn the impact of environmental factors on computer networks.

Maintenance and Support - Students will learn standard back-up procedures, the need for periodic application of software patches, and the importance of anti-virus software.

Troubleshooting - Students will learn a systematic approach to identifying the extent of a network problem and how to resolve the problem accordingly.

Dell Server+ Certification Training Program

Server+ - The Server+ Examination measures the technical knowledge of a server system, and the compatibility of each of the components. CompTIA recommends 18 to 24 months experience in the server technologies industry and at least one other IT certification, typically A+, before acquiring the Server+ Certification. The following are the key focus areas along with a summary of what is to be learned in each particular area.

Basic Knowledge - Students will learn the basics of planning, installing, configuring, and maintaining servers, as well as server-level hardware implementations, data storage subsystems, data recovery, and I/O subsystems.

Installation - Students will learn how to Install hardware using ESD best practices, including the ability to mount the rack installation; cut and crimp network cabling; install UPS; verify SCSI ID configuration and termination; install external devices such as keyboards, monitors, subsystems, and modem racks; and verify power-on via the power-on sequence.

Upgrading - Students will learn how to upgrade server components, including adding hard drives, processors, increasing memory and performing hardware verification. Students will also learn how to update software, drivers, configurations and service tools.

Maintenance and Support - Students will learn how to identify and correct misconfigurations and/or upgrades and determine if problems are related to hardware, software, or a possible virus. In addition students will acquire the knowledge to perform and verify full and routine backups.

Disaster Recovery - Students will learn how to plan for disaster recovery by using fault tolerance/fault recovery; identifying types of backup hardware and restoration schemes; confirming and using off-site storage for backup; and documenting and testing disaster recovery plans.

Performance - Students will learn about server performance including security issues and server room environmental issues, including temperature, humidity, ESD, power surges, back-up generator issues, fire suppression and flood considerations.
