JES and Co.’s Global Learning Resource Connection tools enable IMS member solutions to seamlessly relate learning resources to learning objectives.
The IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS) dedicated an entire day to the Global Learning Resource Connection (GLRC) during the recent quarterly international workshops on Wednesday, November 16, 2010. The attendees represented countries from around the world including the U.S. Department of Education, Australia, the Netherlands, Korea, Germany, UK, and more. European Schoolnet was in attendance representing 27 countries and demonstrated the IMS/GLRC integration. The IMS international workshops were held at Lone Star College in The Woodlands, Texas.
The morning workshops were lead by Stuart Sutton, lead scientist for the Achievement Standards Network; Jon Phipps, lead scientist for internet strategies; and Joseph Chapman, lead ASN data scientist. The morning session focused on the Achievement Standards Network (ASN), Resource Description Framework (RDF) 101, the ASN and its role in IMS specifications such as Learning Object Discovery and Exchange (LODE), Common Cartridge (CC), and Question and Test Interoperability (QTI).
The afternoon session featured an opening presentation by Dr. Rob Abel – Chief Executive Officer of the IMS Global Learning Consortium. Rob focused on the current IMS projects, how IMS is partnering with the GLRC, and why IMS is including the ASN in the IMS specifications.
Terry Smithson, Director of Marketing for JES & Co. moderated a panel discussion with a panel consisting of John Wilson, Executive Director of the NEA; Steve Midgley, Deputy Director of Education Technologies for the US Department of Ed; William Durham, Associate Vice Chancellor for the Lone Star Online College; and David Massart, Chief Architect for the European Schoolnet.
The afternoon closed with a GLRC presentation by Diny Golder, Executive Director of JES & Co. Scholastic Professional Media and Technology & Learning Magazine both covered the event for the education press. Watch for both the interviews and the event coverage soon.
