The Internet and Computing Core Certification (IC�) program is the world's first validated, standards-based training and certification program for basic computing and Internet knowledge and skills. Successful completion of IC� ensures that the examinee has the knowledge and skills required for basic use of computer hardware, software, networks, and the Internet. IC� is the gateway to advancement in education, employment, or other certification programs.
Basic Computer Hardware - Students will identify different types of computers, how computers work (process information), the function and performance affects of computer hardware components, troubleshooting common hardware problems and identifying the factors that go into a decision on how to purchase a computer.
Basic Operating Systems - Students will identify what an operating system is, how it works, change system settings, install software and control the Windows desktop, files and disks.
Basic Computer Software - Students will identify different types of software, how software works and how software works with hardware work together to perform computing tasks
Common Program Functions - Students will be able to start and exit Windows application, utilize sources of online help, identify common on-screen elements of Windows applications, perform common editing (cut, copy, paste, spell-check, etc.), formatting (fonts, margins, tabs, etc.) and perform common printing functions.
Word Processing Functions - Students will be able to format text and documents including the ability to use automatic formatting tools and add tables and graphics to documents.
Spreadsheet Functions - Students will be able to modify worksheet data, sort and manipulate data using formulas and functions and add pictures and charts to a worksheet.
Networks & the Internet - Students will identify network fundamentals, the benefits and risks of network computing, the relationships between computer networks, other communications networks (like the telephone network) and the Internet.
Electronic Mail - Students will identify how electronic mails works, how to use a mail application and the appropriate use of e-mail and e-mail related "netiquette."
Using the Internet - Students will identify different types of information sources on the Internet, use a Web browsing application and search the Internet for information.
The Impact of Computing & the Internet on Society - Students will identify how computers are used in different areas of work, school and home, understand the risks of using computer hardware and software and know how to use the Internet safely and legally.
