Reading Rockets Ready for Takeoff in the Gateway to 21st Century Skills
The 13th annual NEA Read across America will get special support this year by teaming up JES & Co.'s Gateway to 21st Century Skills' editorial staff and Reading Rockets, a non-profit content provider.

At the annual National Science Distributed Learning conference sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF), participants learned how JES & Co.'s Achievement Standards Network (ASN) framework is being used by Australia's Curriculum Corporation in an effort to link educational resource data globally.

JES & Co. Joins IMS Global Learning Consortium
JES & Co. announced today that they have joined IMS Global Learning Consortium as a Contributing Member to support development of interoperability standards for the K12/ Common Cartridge Curriculum Standards project. This work will be part of the Common Cartridge v1.1 release, which will enable curriculum standards (e.g. learning objectives) to be contained with the learning materials of a Common Cartridge. As a result, teachers will gain greater precision in identifying appropriate materials for their students and schools can more systematically track student progression.

NEA's Read Across America, Reading Rockets Lift Off With the Gateway to 21st Century Skills!
Reading Rockets and the Gateway to 21st Century Skills have come together in support of NEA's Read Across America. Both non-profit organizations have announced a year-round collaboration project making Reading Rockets material easily discoverable using the Gateway's state of the art cataloging and search technologies. The Gateway to 21st Century Skills, a JES & Co. project, is sponsored by NEA. The site features free access to over 50,000 learning resources from over 700 contributing members and is targeted for NEA's 3.2 million members along with the general public.

The Verizon Foundation Supports JES & Co.'s Achievement Standards Network
Non-profits, research organizations, and universities have found a friend in JES & Co., a non-profit research organization dedicated to facilitating a 21st century education for all Americans. Thanks to recent funding from the Verizon Foundation, JES & Co.'s Achievement Standards Network (ASN) database of publicly available state academic standards has grown from the National Science Foundation's support in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects, to now include English Language Arts, Social Studies, Economics, Geography and the Arts.

Breakthrough Update on the TeachEngineering Digital Library
After an enormous amount of sustained work and great collaboration with JES & Co. and the Center for Natural Language Processing (Syracuse University), on October 8, 2008, the TeachEngineering team released a new version of its K-12 engineering collection for which all 700+ curricular items are aligned to the K-12 math and science educational standards of all 50 states.
