Analyzing Sonnets How does [insert sonneteer's name] use literary techniques to convey his/her message/theme in [insert sonnet name]? In answering the above essential question, students will read an critique dramatic selections from a variety of authors (to choose their sonnet),read and critique a specific type of poetry (sonnets and the type of sonnet style based on the sonnet chosen), create source and notecards in MLA format, and then write a documented research paper. 11

Two Truths and a Lie "Two Truths and a Lie" is an ice-breaker game where people tell 3 things about themselves and the people listening guess which is the lie. This research lesson provides a more in-depth take on the game so students can learn content, develop research skills, and evaluate accuracy of web information and find discrepencies in sources. Speaking and writing skills can be incorporated. Essential Question: What makes an Internet site valid and reliable? 11, 12

Exploring Art Movements First students will be introduced to the concept of art movements in the classroom, with examples of each, and come to the library for an introduction to CAMIO. Then the students will go on a fieldtrip to a local art museum to look at the artwork. Students choose an artistic work and art movement to imitate and create their own version/interpretation. 11, 12

Hamlet Research Paper: Find, Evaluate, and Select Appropriate Research Sources Students will learn why general Internet search engines are not always the best first-source for research papers (yielding only 25%, at best, of available Web information, according to Devine and Egger-Sider in Going Beyond Google). Thematic Analysis Research Paper - English 11: Part 3 - Note Taking In a unit to write a thematic research paper for English, students return to the library for two final 90 minute class periods to access the sources discovered during the location and access days and begin to take notes for their research paper. The essential question for this lesson is: How can I use my knowledge of subscription databases and various search strategies to locate critical articles on my thesis topic? 11

Thematic Analysis Research Paper - English 11: Part 1- Thesis Statement In preparation for writing a thematic analysis paper, students complete exploratory reading about their author using general reference books. The essential questions are: Which themes common in your author’s life and works do you find applicable to your work? How can you apply your new knowledge to create a thesis statement for your research paper? Once students have constructed a thesis statement, they will be guided to critical literature and begin the research process. 11

ELA Research Paper Introduction During this lesson on writing the research paper, students will be able to answer the following questions: What are the steps of writing a research paper?
