This fall, work begins on the Achievement Standards Network Toolkit, perhaps SETDAs most important toolkit to date. The IFAST will include tools, technologies and best practices that enable states to manage electronic versions of their academic standards, align resources and assessments consistently using open and interoperable methods, and embed standards seamlessly in all manner of learning and assessment systems and systems of accountability.
SETDA has partnered with JES & Co., a nationally recognized non-profit organization specializing in research and development on academic standards, to develop the Achievement Standards Network Toolkit. The toolkit will expand on the National Science Foundations Achievement Standards Network, the authoritative electronic collection of all state and national standards. This database of standards, developed to support the research and cataloging needs of the National Science Digital Library, is an open, interoperable collection of all the states standards and benchmarks and supports other key technology initiatives such as the Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF).
When work begins in the fall to design and develop the Achievement Standards Network Toolkit, SETDA, JES & Co. and a team of leadership states will focus on these key areas of best practices and support:
- First, states will have access to fully digital versions of their standards in order to consistently and accurately represent them in systems of accountability and assessment.
- Second, states will be provided tools that use technology to review, evaluate, compare and identify academic standards unambiguously.
- Third, states will be provided tools that can be used to create and revise standards and participate actively in the Achievement Standards Network project, while assuring their standards are accurately represented in eLearning, content management and other technology-based systems including SIF-compliant applications.
- Finally, states will be provided tools and best practices that can be used to correlate (align) educational resources and assessment items to academic standards and incorporate them within repositories and assessment banks, educational portals and resource collections.
